Cinemas of Harringay

On the Salisbury Corner is a new block of flats with offices at ground level named the Coliseum after the cinema that was there from 1910 until 1961. The cinema became a bingo hall and then a furniture warehouse and was finally demolished in 1999.
The Premier Electric Theatre opened in 1910 in Frobisher Road, facing Duckett’s Common. In 1939 it was renamed the Regal and in 1959 was part of the Essoldo circuit. For a short time in 1963 it was a bingo club before reopening as the Curzon cinema, only to close again in 1989. It then became a laser games venue and was briefly used by the Church of Destiny before being revamped as the New Curzon cinema in 1997, claiming to be the oldest surviving purpose built cinema in London; it is now the Liberty Church.
On the corner of Wightman Road, fronting Turnpike Lane, the Bioscope Picture Palace opened in 1911. It then became the Grand Picture House, Grand Cinema, New Clarence and The Regent Cinema, before closing in 1934, when it was used as a workshop.
